Meet Sherry Puttkammer of

The Dotted Pig

A born-and-raised native, Sherry Puttkammer has fond memories of shopping downtown Rogers as a child, a teenager and throughout her life. When she goes out of town, she visits the historic downtown area. So it only makes sense that she opened her own shop in downtown Rogers—The Dotted Pig.

Open since February 2016, The Dotted Pig’s inventory changes often—“When you come into the store, you’re always going to find something different,” Sherry says. It offers home décor like candles and picture frames; accessories like handbags, jewelry and reading glasses; items for baby and bridal showers; and, of course, lots of pigs and University of Arkansas Razorbacks items.

And each product has a mission: Sherry loves working with local Rogers/Northwest Arkansas mom-and-pop operations, researching each before bringing its items into her store.

“I tend to gravitate toward those so that when people come into my store, it’s an experience,” she says. “I want them to have stories behind the things they buy, something attached to it rather than something just plucked off the shelf.”

In addition to supporting local artisans and vendors, Sherry gives The Dotted Pig a hometown vibe by offering little touches like free gift wrapping and delivering gifts to bridal showers.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to do this,” Sherry says.

Sherry has several loyal local customers—including a monkey. Ok, so the monkey is actually the pet of a customer who visits the store often and pops in when something catches her eye on the store’s Instagram. One day she brought in her pet monkey, and it’s a day Sherry won’t soon forget. It’s one of many friendships formed in the store.

“Our store’s not your typical store,” she says. “It’s really important for me to have everyone walk out of here feeling like they were welcomed, like it was a pleasant place to be.”

In addition to the locals, The Dotted Pig regularly gets a lot of travelers, many of whom come down from Missouri. Sherry does her part to promote Rogers to them. She keeps the menus of local restaurants in the store, and if someone asks where they should eat, she first gets an idea of what they’re looking for before making recommendations.

The “rustic chic” Parkside Public in Rogers is popular. And Levi’s, also in the heart of downtown, is ideal for something a bit more upscale.

And when visitors ask what there is to do nearby, Rogers has much to offer. “There’s the Arkansas Public Theatre downtown, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Lake Atalanta…” The list goes on and on.

Sherry now has a second store location in Uptown Rogers bringing in more guests from all over NWA.
